The ALICE Summit

While these examples we found on YouTube are speed painters (which isn’t a requirement), the goal is to capture that same energy and engagement during this moment of the event.

 

In short, the ALICE Summit is a conference focused on the challenges faced by the Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed (ALICE)population. These households earn above the Federal Poverty Level, but still struggle to afford basic necessities such as housing, childcare, food, and transportation.

We are working with United Way of Northern New Jersey (UWNNJ) to organize a national event, the 2026 National ALICE Summit in Miami, FL, on January 5-7. The team at UWNNJ is interested in working with a local artist to feature and create a piece during the actual summit.

Our vision is to have someone create a LIVE painting while a Miami resident shares their story, allowing the audience to engage deeply with both the narrative and the artistry in real time.

We don’t want to box an artist into a specific direction we'd much rather give the artist creative freedom to interpret the moment in their own way. For example, if the ALICE storyteller shares about spending three hours commuting each day on public transportation while juggling school, work, and family, the artist might choose to paint an image of someone on a train, dreaming of something greater. Or, they may decide to create a portrait of the storyteller instead.

We’re still in the early planning stages, but we wanted to share the vision: the artist has full empowerment to create what feels most authentic. As a side note,  artist will also have the opportunity to sell their work at the event.

Interested artists must submit a quote and a few samples of their work.
